WhatsApp is actively developing a new feature that will
allow new members joining a group to access the group's previous chat history. This functionality will give
group administrators the control to decide whether or not to allow newcomers to
view messages exchanged before they joined.

Purpose: Currently,
when a new person joins a WhatsApp group, they can only see messages sent
from the moment they are added. This upcoming feature aims to bridge that
gap, making it easier for new members to understand the context of prior
discussions.
- Admin
Control: The
management of this feature will rest entirely with the Group Administrator. The admin will be
able to access settings to decide how much of the past chat history (if
any) they wish to share with a new member.
- Benefit: This
will be particularly advantageous for larger groups where important
announcements or detailed topic discussions have already taken place. New
members will be able to quickly catch up on the context without needing to
repeatedly ask for clarification.
- Rollout
Status: This
feature is currently in the testing phase within WhatsApp's Beta version and is expected to
be rolled out to all general users soon.

As
with all its communications, WhatsApp will maintain End-to-End Encryption for this feature. This means
that although the history is shared, the messages will remain private between
the group members and the admin, and no third party will be able to access
them.
